    Default Sonic 4 announced

It's been announced that Sega's secret Project Needlemouse is a new 2D Sonic game, with 3D backgrounds and so far Sonic is the only playable character.

Does this mean that Sega have given in to public opinion that all the 3D Sonic's have not been the best and the extras are just annoying?

Been announced for xbox arcade, PSN, WiiWare and one other platform.

    Project Needlemouse is Sonic 4

what i didnt like is how on the trailer on ign the sonic title screen logo said

    Sonic 4
    -episode 1-

ive been really lookin forward to this but if its gonna be in loads of episodes im not gonna bother. youll end up gettin all the episodes bulked together after theyre all out for what usually works out to be cheaper than buying them individually. ill have to wait and see.

    Isn't it 2d backgrounds and 3d characters?

Eitherway, this is why I dislike Nintendo and Sega. Revisiting old names cause they know it will sell, instead of making some new and fresh. Name any big games on the Wii, apart from Wii Sports/Fit, 9 times out of 10 you'll be naming a game where the main character is older than you.

Or what Jason said re characters.

I could cheat with few games about the Wii but I get the point. Most people buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games.

Which is rather sillyfor a console that is the most "fresh and new" out of the 3 big consoles, IMO. What with the motion controllers. They could of done so many different kind of new, fresh, even revolutionary games, they ended up doing the same old games and some fitness games. Not cool.

Not saying the games aren't bad, the Wii has really good games, I'm a Mario Kart/Party fanboy, but I just feel with motion controllers they could have done so much more before the 360/PS3 got in on it. Suppose we'll see at the end of the year with Natal and the PS3 motion controller.

This is what the new game is trying to address the people who couldn't stand the new 3D games.

What is the point in making 2D and 3D of Sonic? Hello, we are now in 21st century, everything going digital and into pre-3D age!

The new Sonic game seemed have no difference of play and every Sonic game have the same goal...sure the story are similar but only little few tweaks.

Surely Sega could have come up better idea than this? It gets worse after ceased production of Dreamcast...

ive loved every sonic sidescroller game, i liked sonic adventure 1 and sonic adventure 2 but the rest have been kinda pants.

A 2d game is where sonic should stay. But whose to say they couldnt use 3d in the 2d games.

Have sonic set as the center layer and have the backgrounds+foregrounds layered up in 3d. i noticed this in all the 3d films ive seen, when you take the glasses off some parts of the image are perfect the rest is blurred(the 3d parts) theres no reason why they couldnt apply this to 2d side scrollers. take ice age 3, many times the characters look fine but the foreground and background are what is in 3d. i think sonic would look awesome done that way.
